On the official Twitter page for the show, Bert - who has
long raised eyebrows over sharing a bed with room-mate Ernie - referred to
himself using a slang word for gay.
Comparing his hairstyle to that of A-Team character Mr T, Bert said: "The
only difference is mine is a little more 'mo', a little less 'hawk.'"
The word "mo" is short for "homosexual" in some parts of the gay community.
Broadcasters PBS have not yet commented on the tweet, but it is being seen
as evidence the show is taking a more gay-friendly approach.
Bert and Ernie's relationship has been the subject of speculation for
decades.
